Kansas Severe Weather Week March 4-8

Severe weather icon for preparedness.

Are you prepared for a severe weather event? Receiving notifications for severe weather is crucial but getting those notifications is easy. Miami County offers easy sign-up for Code Red emergency alerts to all county residents. You have the option of creating a managed account or just submitting your information.

The National Weather Service offers specific information on being prepared from getting those emergency notifications to having a family communication plan to preparing a safe place in your home to shelter from a storm.

The City's newsletter from last spring has great information on tornado safety.

A public tornado shelter is located in the basement of the Fire Station, 205 S. Metcalf Road. In the event of a tornado warning the building will be open to citizens to take shelter. Parking is located behind the station. There is a lift for those unable to navigate the steps to the shelter area. Dogs and cats secured in a pet carrier are allowed to seek shelter with their owners.
