Heating Safety

These simple tips and precautions can keep you and your family safe from a winter-time fire when half of home heating fires are reported, according to the National Fire Protection and Association.

Keep anything that can burn - including you and your pets - at least three feet from a heating source like the furnace, fireplace, wood stove or portable space heater. And when using a space heater don't ever use an extension cord or a power strip and always unplug it when leaving the room.

Test your smoke alarms at least once a month. Install a Carbon Monoxide detector especially if you have a gas or oil-burning stove or furnace.
